Artist Biography: 

Based in Abilene, Texas, Polly Jones is an accomplished mixed media artist with a career spanning over four decades. A BFA graduate of Abilene Christian University with graduate studies at the University of Arkansas, Jones has established a prolific professional record, including several solo exhibitions across Texas and Tennessee, as well as participation in juried group shows.

Her work, noted for its vibrant exploration of ordinary life through still life and landscapes, has gained significant recognition. Her paintings are held in private collections across the United States and internationally. Her achievements include features in national publications such as Create Magazine and Studio Visit Magazine. Jones is a signature member of The Center for Contemporary Arts in Abilene, River Oaks Art Gallery in Abilene Frame and Art, and is currently represented by MixHaus Gallery in Comfort, Texas. Her practice remains dedicated to pursuing creative solutions to the endless delightful possibilities of combining paint and paper on canvas with humble subject matter and big ideas about connectedness and the present moment.

Artist Statement:

I paint from life as a way to practice gratitude and the magic of the slow gaze. My still life compositions feature storied objects, often passed through generations, that serve as vessels for memory and history. Alongside them, flowers and fish act as a memento mori, reminders of the life’s fleeting nature. The painting becomes a place for the coexistence of the present moment, the past, and the future.

My images are constructed as a tactile tapestry of paint and vintage paper. By integrating diverse paper sources, I create a sort of homemade internet - an analogue repository of varied voices and viewpoints that contrasts with the relentless information of the digital age. Ultimately, my practice is a joyful grappling with color, light, and texture. My use of polka dots serves a purpose, symbolizing a faith in the unseen, references to atoms, spirit, and pixels.
