By Thomas Lee
Reception: August 7, 5-7pm
This is a photographic exhibition of the spectacular and surprising wildlife and landscapes of the Ecuadorian Andes. Ecuador is one of the most biologically rich areas of the Earth. It is referred to as a biological hotspot with the highest biodiversity of many groups of animals in the world. The photographs will include mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, spiders, and insects. However, this exhibition will primarily focus on the fantastic diversity of Ecuadorian bats, rats, opossums, shrews, deer, and other mammals. The mammals of the Andes have been my (Dr Tom Lee) primary research interest for the last 23 years of biological exploration. Many species of mammals new to science have been described as a result of field work in Ecuador. This photo exhibition will also present the stunning landscapes of the Ecuadorean Andes from mid-elevation cloud forests to the high paramo (alpine grassland) on the slopes of some of the tallest mountains in the Western Hemisphere.
