The Secrets of Nature

EXHIBIT STATEMENT

I have always been amazed by the natural world.

The multiplicity of experiences out of doors gave me such a joy and created a hunger to know more. Immersion in nature has become a way of life and a large part of my art.

I read Loren Eiselsy's book "The Star Thrower" an anthology of his work. A passage in one chapter states:

"Nature remains an otherness which incorporates man, but which man instinctively feels contains secrets denied to him"

This struck a chord in me and one I think most of us feel. I have intuitively toyed with this idea for years. This exhibition does not attempt to answer any of these questions.

As a person who digs in the dirt I have used the wonderful Red Sediments in Elm Creek in many of the pieces in the show,
ie "Bones for Tom", Elm Creek Wall (title) "Secret Shapes & Secrets of Nature.

The mixed media piece Three Leaves is about reality and illusion and why we (people) are so enamored with "Realism". In nature every thing is "Real" even the "Illusions".
