Patty Rae Wellborn is a studio artist and art teacher who has been teaching and
presenting workshops for the 10+ years. An active member of the Center for Contemporary
Arts, and the Creative Arts Club, she has been involved in many types of art education
for our young. Whimsy and imagination will be in abundant supply for this experience.
Classes will require a minimum of 7 students and a maximum
of 12. CARTOONING Ages 8-12 WHEN: Monday,
June 14 through Friday, June 18 TIME: 10am- 12 noon WHERE: Center for Contemporary
Arts, 220 Cypress HOW MUCH: $100.00 for members $125.00 for nonmembers Center
Artist Member and longtime ArtReach teacher Ruth Jackson will lead students in
Developing their own characters with unique heads, bodies, and expressions. Several
drawing and painting techniques will be applied for finished art work. Materials
will be furnished. Classes will require a minimum of 7
students and a maximum of 12. DRAWING Ages
13 and up WHEN: Monday, June 21 through Friday June 25 TIME: 10am-12 noon WHERE:
Center for Contemporary Arts, 220 Cypress HOW MUCH: $100.00 for members $125.00
for nonmembers Ruth Jackson will guide these students
to explore drawing with diverse materials including pencil, pen, and charcoal.
A variety of techniques and skills will be used to advance drawing skills. Classes
will require a minimum of 7 students and a maximum of 12. COSTUME
DESIGN Intergalactic! Ages 13 to adult WHEN: Monday, July 12 through
Friday July 16 TIME: 10am -12 noon WHERE: Center for Contemporary Arts,
220 Cypress HOW MUCH: $125.00 for members $150.00 for nonmembers About
the instructor: Originally from San Angelo, Richard Transki made his mark as a
Hollywood costume designer, and through a stroke of fate, came to Abilene. His
film credits include: Planet of the Apes, Ocean's Eleven, Looking for Lost Bird,
Song of the Lark and Hidalgo. Richard will inspire, instruct and assist campers
in creating "out-of-this-world" costumes for campers to debut at our
October 14th Intergalactic ArtWalk; and then, Halloween. Imagination rules!
Classes will require a minimum of 7 students and a maximum
of 12. STARSHIP SHOP Ages
11 and up WHEN: Monday, July 19- Friday July 23 TIME: 10am-12 noon WHERE:

for nonmembers About the instructor: Celebrated author,
illustrator, and sculptor, Molinda "Mo" Parker will inspire your young
artist/engineer to design And the create intergalactic starships out of recycled
materials. These "green" Marvels of engineering will be featured in
a special showing. For the October 14, Intergalactic ArtWalk. TREKKIES welcome! Classes
will require a minimum of 7 students and a maximum of 12. PHOTOGRAPHY
I Beginner WHEN: Monday, July 26 through Friday, July 30 TIME: 10am-12
noon WHERE: Center for Contemporary Arts, 220 Cypress and around town HOW
MUCH: $125.00 for members $150.00 for nonmembers About
the instructor: Both a professional photographer and a photography instructor
at McMurry University, Jennifer Nichols is an artist member of the Center and
a veteran Summer Camp instructor. Students will be supplied with a Kodak Easy
Share camera to learn basic photographic composition as well as new techniques.
No need for the darkroom, it's all digital. Classes will require a minimum
of 7 students and a maximum of 12. PHOTOGRAPHY II Intermediate WHEN:
Monday, July 26 through Friday, July 30 TIME: 1:00-3:00pm WHERE: Center
for Contemporary Arts, 220 Cypress, and other way cool places around town
(most probably the Zoo and its environs.) HOW MUCH: $125.00 for members $150.00
for nonmembers Jennifer Nichols will coach older youth
who may or may not already have experience with digital cameras. Students will
use the Center's cameras and computers to learn more advanced techniques. Jennifer
always has a few "tricks" up her sleeves to share! Classes
will require a minimum of 7 students and a maximum of 12.
