AND ENTERTAINMENT In
Minter Park, enjoy a performance by the New Yung Crew, sponsored by Our
House as part of National Homeless Youth Awareness Month. Music begins at 6:00
PM!
At the Center
for Contemporary Arts, enjoy piano performances by students of the Abilene
Music Teacher's Association in the Breed Gallery from 5:30 to 8:15 PM. The Abilene
High School Theatre Department will perform upstairs throughout the evening. At
6:30 PM, there will be a reception and awards presentation for the Intercollegiate
Student Art Competition in Gallery 3.
Texas
Star Trading Company will host two West Texas authors from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.
Bill Neal of Abilene will sign his new book, From Guns to Gavels: How Justice
Grew Up in the Outlaw West, as well as his previous book, Getting Away with Murder
on the Texas Frontier. Mike Cochran of Fort Worth, longtime West Texas correspondent
for the Associated Press, will sign his book, Claytie, about colorful West Texas
oilman Clayton Williams.
At
the Paramount Theatre, the Cooper High School Percussion ensemble will
perform from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. The 2008 24fps Young Filmmaker Showcase will screen
at 7:30 PM. Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the screening of the
films. The screenings are free to the public.
At
the Grace Museum, festive fall colors will inspire you as you create your
own placemat to celebrate "Autumn ArtWalk" in Make It and Take It, a
free, hands-on art activity for kids of all ages. Make It and Take It is available
from 5:30 to 8:00 PM.
In
front of the Cockerell Galleries & Studios: Just in time for Christmas,
blingy handmade jewelry and more will be specially priced by decorator, Jaime
Ray of "A Change of Scenery" from Studio 214! Professional calligraphers,
Suzanne Starr and Anita Lane will be creating beautiful designer signs at each
customer's request. Don't miss the demonstrations of wood whittler, Dennis Regan!
His one-of-a-kind, award winning pieces will also be on display! Specially designed
batik items by Janine Smith will be "specially" priced, just in time
for Christmas!
The
ACU Jazz Band will perform for the Abilene Swing Dance Society at 8:45
PM in the Windsor Hotel Ballroom. There will be beginning lessons from 8:00 to
8:30 and the dance will begin at 8:45 PM. $5 at the door.
At
the Abilene Public Library, Registered Nurse Marsha Carter will talk about
healthy eating strategies for the holidays ahead and answer questions about food
and nutrition. And as you stroll downtown during ArtWalk, you'll also want to
stop in and see Debra Warr's fabulous children's mural in the library storyroom.

AND MUSEUMS The Center for Contemporary Arts,
220 Cypress St. Jane Adams Breed Gallery: Gauguin's Tahiti a Center Artist
Member Group Exhibit Experience the latest collaborative work of the Center's
Artist Membership, inspired by the artwork Paul Gauguin created during his stint
in Tahiti. Gallery 2: The Veil by Rania Matar - This exhibit
examines the spread of "the veil" and its meaning. In Lebanon women
do not have to wear the veil, but wearing it is rapidly becoming a decision of
choice among most Muslim women young and old, modern and traditional. Gallery
3: Intercollegiate Student Art Competition - The Center is proud to host its Inaugural
Intercollegiate Student Art Competition. This juried competition was open to all
area University students. A reception and awards presentation will be held tonight
at 6:30 PM.
Gallery 4: Selections from the 24fps International
Short Film Festival from the Historic Paramount Theatre. A selection of films
from the annual festival will be screened in Gallery 4 during November and December.
The Center will also screen films from the Young Filmmakers Showcase.

BCAA 2008 art competition during a reception beginning at 5:30 PM.

The Grace
Museum, 102 Cypress St. Main Gallery: Apron Chronicles:
A Patchwork of American Recollections. Share a few apron memories while viewing
this wonderful exhibit. Apron Chronicles is a nationwide traveling exhibit comprised
of photographs, stories and vintage aprons. The exhibit acts as a vehicle, providing
prompts that will have visitors recalling and sharing their own apron recollections.
Second
Floor: Gallery A - Sandria Hu: Smoke and Ash. Sandria Hu's abstract prints, paintings
and constructions are both physically and emotionally compelling. Her personalized
style and technique has developed over many years of artistic work and worldwide
travel. Her work has been called landscapes of the mind - fragments of memory
of places visited and revisited again and again.
Galleries
B and C - Imaging Blackness, 1915-2002: Film Posters from the Indiana University
Black Film Center/Archive. Imaging Blackness includes 43 striking posters from
almost a century of independent black cinema. Collectively, these film posters
provide a captivating exploration of the development of African-American cinema
as it forged a role for black entertainers that countered - or reinforced - prevailing
racial stereotypes. Come Play and Learn in The Grace's Children's Museum, featuring
many new exhibits that are certain to educate and entertain!
Third
Floor: History Museum - Mallouf Boot Shop and Historic Period Rooms
12th Armored Division Memorial Museum, 1289 N. 2nd St. Living History
Interpreters Tom Walke, Alex Phillips, and William Lenches will be dressed in
12th Armored Division WWII uniforms and will give fifteen minute firearms presentations.
There are small gifts available for children in the gift shop, donated by Vanessa
Harris. NCCIL (National Center for Children's Illustrated
Literature), 102 Cedar St. Knuffle Funny: The Art and Whimsy of Mo Willems The
NCCIL will feature new artist, Mo Willems and his book, Don't Let the Pigeon Stay
Up Late. Everyone is invited to see the exhibition and to enjoy making a craft
with the family. Frontier Texas!, 625 N. 1st St. Frontier Texas!
will be open from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Receive $1 off admission all day when you
