ACTIVITIES AND ENTERTAINMENT

The NCCIL opens Golden Legacy: 65 years
of Original Art from Golden Books. Kids of all ages will enjoy
this spectacular trip down memory lane. Art from many of the classic
Golden Books will be featured. Kids can make a basket to take
to grandmother's house for Thanksgiving (or to use on your own
table). Don't miss the stick puppet show by Connecting Caring
Communities at 6:00 and 6:45 PM based on the Golden Book The Little
Red Hen.
At the Grace Museum, make a Thanksgiving
Door Hanger to celebrate Thanks Giving in Make It and Take It.
Make It and Take It is a free, hands-on art activity for kids
of all ages. It will be available from 5:30 to 8:00 PM.
The Historic Paramount Theatre presents
Dreamgirls at 7:30 PM. The movie version of the hit Broadway
musical comes to the Paramount screen for the holiday season.
The film chronicles the rise to fame of a black female singing
group in the 1960s who try to cross over to the white music charts.
Rated PG-13. Ticket prices are $6 for adults and $5 for students,
seniors, military and children.
The Center for Contemporary Arts will
be holding a reception for the Center Artist Member's exhibit
blue in the Jane Adams Breed Gallery at 6:00 PM. The Center
will also be hosting the Abilene Music Teacher's Association in
Gallery 2 from 5:30 to 7:45 PM.
Enjoy music by Wylie High School students Colin
Barnard, Matt Gotcher, Michael Perkins, and Mitchell Arnold's
Indie Rock band Wouk in front of the Cockerell Building's 2nd
St. Gallery & Studios. Nearby, Pinhole Photographer, Henry
Morgan, will be displaying his art photography and his array of
homemade pinhole cameras.
GALLERIES AND MUSEUMS
The Center for Contemporary Arts, 220
Cypress St.
Jane Adams Breed Gallery: The blue exhibit features a diverse
selection of work from over 70 Center Artist Members including
works in acrylic, watercolor, photography, ceramics, glass and
more.
Gallery 2: No Crystal Stair by Angie Cook.
This collection of photographs by Angie Cook documents the lives
of six individuals and gives viewers insight into the personal
struggles they have overcome.
Gallery 3: Ellison, Fairbetter, Teeters:Three
Perspectives by Russell Ellison, LaGina Fairbetter and Steve Teeters.
This collaboration showcases the work of three artists and includes
both two and three dimensional artwork.
Gallery 4: Selections from 24fps short film
+ video competition. Selections from the Paramount's independent
film festival will be shown in Gallery 4 for the months of November
and December.

Cockerell's 2nd Street Gallery and Studios, 1133 N. 2nd
St.
Cockerell's 2nd St. Gallery proudly presents ACU's Biennial Faculty
Exhibit. There will be a reception during Artwalk.
On the second floor of Cockerell Studios, six "friends"-
Heather Turner, Jim Smith, Robert Cavaliere, Cassandra Johnston,
Cliff Cartwright, & Bonny O'Neill, also known as "Filos",
will display their various mediums of art. New to Cockerell Studios
is artist, Jud Beall, displaying in "Studio J"! On exhibit,
will be pieces by artists, Ash Almonte, Nancy & Hannah Capra,
Chris Cockerell, TM Gand, Doug Hodel, Samantha Manski, and Jessica
Natalee Templeton. You are also invited to stop by Clinical Hypnotherapist's,
Christy Kahl, for a relaxing visit.
Frontier Texas!, 625 N. 1st St.
Frontier Texas! will have a free exhibit entitled Sacred Symbols,
Sacred Places: Texas Indian Art & Historic Sites in the Frontier
Gallery through November 19th. Frontier Texas! will be open from
9:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Get $1.00 off Century of Adventure exhibit
admissions all day when you ask for the ArtWalk Discount.
The Grace Museum, 102 Cypress St.
Main Gallery: Bound for Glory: America in Color, 1939-1943. This
is the first major exhibition of the little-known color images
taken by photographers of the Farm Security Administration/Office
of War Information.
Second Floor: Gallery A and B - Earth + Sky:
Hellerbrand and Masteller. In Earth + Sky, photographer Nancy
Hellerbrand and painter Barry Masteller capture the wonder and
majesty of our fragile environment as the primary subject.
Gallery C - Art For the People: Depression
Era Prints From the Collection. Includes a selection of significant
prints from the 1930s curated from The Grace's collection. A selection
of these prints, along with others from the collection, will be
on display in conjunction with the main gallery exhibition Bound
for Glory.
Second Floor: Children's Museum - Come Play and Learn in The Grace's
newly renovated Children's Museum, featuring many new exhibits
that are certain to educate and entertain!
Third Floor: History Museum - Mallouf Boot
Shop and Historic Period Rooms.
12th Armored Division Memorial Museum,
1289 N. 2nd St.
Living History Interpreters will be dressed in 12th Armored Division
WWII uniforms, and talking about WWII weapons. Free small gifts
to children inside the gift shop donated by Vanessa Harris.
NCCIL (National Center for Children's Illustrated
Literature), 102 Cedar St. See the most extensive public showing
ever of original illustration art from American publishing's best-loved
and most consequential picture-book series, Little Golden Books,
from October 30 - January 4, 2008. Sixty masterpieces will be
featured including examples from such picture-books classics as
The Poky Little Puppy, Tootle, Home for a Bunny, and The Color
Kittens.
Abilene Public Library, 202 Cedar St.
Local artist Janie Tucher will have a display of her work (western
photos and drawings) in the display case for November. She will
be on hand during ArtWalk to talk about her work from 5:45 to
7:15 PM. Please enjoy the wonderful mural by Debra Warr in the
Children's Story Room.
Bernice Landrum invites you to visit the second floor gallery
at the Windsor, located at the corner of N. 4th and Pine Street.
