GALLERIES AND MUSEUMS

The Center for Contemporary Arts
220 Cypress St.
Jane Adams Breed Gallery: Symbolic Renditions by Ford Farr
Ford Farr's expressive painting style depicts unusual subjects and incorporates satirical allusions to well-known artworks.

Gallery 2: The Veil by Rania Matar - This exhibit examines the spread of "the veil" and its meaning. In Lebanon women do not have to wear the veil, but wearing it is rapidly becoming a decision of choice among most Muslim women young and old, modern and traditional.

Gallery 3: Go Figure-ative a Center Artist Member Group Exhibit - The figure is one of the most complicated subjects to capture. Whether it's a hand or a full body in movement, an artist's interpretation of the figure can often be a direct insight into an artist's ability and skill. This exhibit, Go Figure-ative, allows our artists to present their various talents in expression and encompasses their wit and creativity.

Gallery 4: Nature, Up Close and Personal by Mike Lanier - Lanier's life-like paintings give us a magnified look at animals in nature. Each of these paintings is a close study of the wonderful occurrences in nature

The Grace Museum

Main Gallery: Apron Chronicles: A Patchwork of American Recollections. Share a few apron memories while viewing this wonderful exhibit. Apron Chronicles is a nationwide traveling exhibit comprised of photographs, stories and vintage aprons. Second Floor: Gallery A - Sandria Hu: Smoke and Ash. Sandria Hu's abstract prints, paintings and constructions are both physically and emotionally compelling. Her personalized style and technique has developed over many years of artistic work and worldwide travel. Her work has been called landscapes of the mind - fragments of memory of places visited and revisited again and again.

Galleries B and C - Imaging Blackness, 1915-2002: Film Posters from the Indiana University Black Film Center/Archive. Imaging Blackness includes 43 striking posters from almost a century of independent black cinema. Collectively, these film posters provide a captivating exploration of the development of African-American cinema as it forged a role for black entertainers that countered - or reinforced - prevailing racial stereotypes.
