Memory ArtWalk - September 9, 2010

ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION -NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS CHAPTER SPONSORS MEMORY ART WALK IN DOWNTOWN ABILENE

Abilene, TX - The Alzheimer's Association -North Central Texas Chapter will sponsor the September 9th ArtWalk coordinated by The Center for Contemporary Arts, to be called "Memory ArtWalk" in recognition of the role memory plays in art and as a tribute to the millions of people with memory loss. ArtWalk takes place Thursday, September 9, from 5 to 8:30 pm in downtown Abilene. From ancient times to the present, artists, philosophers, and poets have been fascinated by memory and how it shapes who we are as human beings. In Greek mythology, Memory (Mnemosyne) is the mother of the Muses, the nine goddesses who inspire all forms of art and knowledge. For more information about Alzheimer's disease, Memory Walk or Memories in the Making®, call the Alzheimer's Association at 800-272-3900 or visit www.alz.org/northcentraltexas. The mission of the Alzheimer's Association is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. A small exhibition of paintings from Memories in the Making®, an art program for people with dementia developed by the Alzheimer's Association, will be on view at

The Center for Contemporary Arts on the evening of September 9th. The exhibition includes paintings by artists at Windcrest Alzheimer's Care Center in Abilene, as well as at other long term care communities throughout North Central Texas that host Memories in the Making.®
