Jane Adams Breed Gallery: Art for Nature: Save the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker– invitational exhibit hosted by Larry Millar

Signature Artist Member Larry Millar is well known for his love of nature. Much of his work is derived from natural materials-- sediments in mud, wood, leaves etc. and allows viewers to be fascinated with the elements. This exhibit, hosted by Millar, is an invitational to various other artists to express their interests in one very exclusive part of nature: The Ivory-billed Woodpecker. Last sighted in 2004, this rare bird has become a high priority for conservation in the Big Woods of Arkansas. Each piece displayed in this exhibit is also displayed in an online auction at biddingforgood.com. Proceeds from this exhibit will go to the Big Woods Conservancy in hopes of preserving this bird's natural habitat. An opening reception for this exhibit will be held Thursday, March 12th during ArtWalk at 6:30 p.m.

Gallery 2 (Photography): Fate as We Know It: Greg Davis

During the months of February and March, the Center is proud to present Fate as We Know It by Austin-based photographer, Greg Davis. This exhibit features images representing the beauty of humanity. These photographs, taken all over the world, are part of Davis' quest to live life through his gift. Davis' signature image, "The Blanket Weaver", tells the partial story of a Vietnamese woman he encountered while traveling. His photograph of her hands has instilled hope in many viewers and is a reminder of his purpose. Davis intends to someday, write a book, go back to Vietnam and find the woman so he can tell her story and let her know how she has become woven into his life. This exhibit will close on Wednesday, March 25th with a gallery talk by Greg Davis at 6:30 p.m.

Gallery 3: VASE- High School Art Competition

Each year, Region 14 High School art students enter two works of art in the VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) competition. This competition is the UIL (University Interscholastic League) equivalent for art. The entries are judged by local art professionals and out over 120 entries, 30 will advance on to the state competition after being featured in Gallery 3 at the Center. This exhibit will be on display from Saturday, March 7th through Friday, March 27th.

The third in a triennial series organized by the Austin Museum of Art, 20 to Watch: New Art in Austin gives these young artists, all of whom are under thirty, a premier exhibition and introduces their work to a larger audience.
