ArtWalk Thursday, March 13th from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. ArtWalk is sponsored this
month by First Texas Title, Bradshaw and McCall LLP ACTIVITIES
AND ENTERTAINMENT Come hear Dallas photographer Hal
Samples at the Center for Contemporary Arts talk about his exhibit
Samples of Society at 6:30 PM. As a part of this exhibit, the Center is
having a canned food drive to benefit the Food Bank of West Central Texas,
which will run through March 14th. Various service organizations from the area
will be present to help you get involved in serving our community. Fairies from
Ballet Abilene's production of Sleeping Beauty will be at the Center to celebrate
the Art of Dance, and artist and videograher Kaleta Doolin will also be
present. At the Grace Museum, create a Dancer
Sculpture to celebrate "The Art of Dance" in Make It and Take It, a
free hands-on art activity for kids of all ages, available from 5:30 to 8:00 PM.
Take a load off at the Abilene Public Library
and watch artist in wood Judy Kingery create living art. And while you're there,
you'll also want to see Debra Warr's fabulous mural devoted to all the wonders
that spring from the imagination and the pages of children's literature. ACU*Cockerell
Art Gallery will host a public reception during ArtWalk to honor the show,
A Cameo: Selected student works from the ACU Department of Art & Design from
5:00 - 8:30 PM. Roberts Studio will host a group
of young and talented artists for ArtWalk in the West Gallery directly above the
studio space. The work will be on display Monday, March 10 through Thursday, March
13. There will be a closing reception on Thursday evening March 13 from 5:00 to
8:30 PM. The Historic Paramount Theatre will be
hosting groups from local dance companies performing works from their studios
from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. This event is free to the public. The
Texas Tornadoes will be performing in Minter Park at 6:30 PM, and the Abilene
Pipers will be playing in various locations throughout the evening. The
Honeycomb Tree will feature paintings by Glen R. McKelvy, a local artist
born in Albany in 1937. Mr. McKelvy earned acclaim in various shows, and his work
is recognized in Arkansas as well as Texas. One of his paintings now hangs in
the Museum of Arkansas. "Abilene Through A Pinhole"
- Don't miss out on this fun, FREE art project! Pinhole Photographer, Henry
Morgan, is supplying 20 people with free one-shot pinhole cameras to take
unique shots of Abilene! Stop by Cockerell Galleries during ArtWalk to pick up
your camera and to learn more about this project! Celebrate
the Art of Dance at the NCCIL! Come enjoy the artwork of Gerald McDermott,
create a mosaic art project, and enjoy a performance by Order of the Arrow dancers. GALLERIES

St. Jane Adams Breed Gallery: Motif in Mind
by Patty Rae Wellborn. This collection of whimsical ink drawings and illustrative
paintings combines fascinating linework with bold colors and imagery. Gallery
2: Samples of Society by Hal Samples - Hal Samples is a photographer out
of Dallas, Texas whose mission is to help others find joy through the power of
serving others. His images reflect the life and beauty we all seek in each other
and in the world around us. Gallery 3: VASE High School
Art Competition - The Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) is sponsored annually
by the Texas Art Education Association. The work displayed has earned a Level
4 rating, which is the highest rating awarded.

4: Thoughts: Dreams by Kaleta Doolin - Kaleta Doolin is an artist out of
Dallas, Texas who brings us her fanciful creations through a variety of unconventional
media including video and light box installations. Conference
Room: Heart Gallery - The Heart Gallery exists to raise awareness about
children who are available for adoption. The Texas Department of Family and Protective
Services has joined hands with local photographers to give these children hope
for the future. Local photographers have donated their time and talent to capture
the spirit of these children from Abilene and 60 surrounding counties. ACU*Cockerell

artist, Hannah Capra as its "Featured Artist" during the month of March!
Cockerell Galleries welcomes new to its family photographer Tammy Marcelain, artist
Joanna Fortson, and young artists Stacy Horton and Brittany Bennett of Studio
Brista! Visit with photographer Doug Hodel, as well as potter Heather Turner!
See works displayed by artists Ash Almonte and Jessica Natalee Templeton. Artist
Nancy Capra will be displaying her new pieces, as well as artists TM Gand and
S. Manski, who is graciously donating proceeds from her sales during ArtWalk to

St. Main Gallery: Picturing Eden: An International
Exhibit Organized by the George Eastman House. By looking at the concept of paradise
and the garden through the photographic lens, Picturing Eden highlights the ongoing
significance of a humanistic, culturally charged environment and its place in
the history of art. This exhibit of over 100 contemporary photographs features
more than 35 artists. Second Floor: Galleries A, B and
C Youth Art Month: This annual event at The Grace highlights the talents of
hundreds of elementary, middle and high school students from across Abilene and
the Big Country. The second floor galleries are filled with color as works of
art are on display from students in the Abilene School District and other schools
across Region 14. Second Floor: Children's Museum: Come
Play and Learn in The Grace's Children's Museum, featuring many new exhibits that
are certain to educate and entertain! Third Floor: History
Museum: Mallouf Boot Shop and Historic Period Rooms 12th
Armored Division Memorial Museum, 1289 N. 2nd St. Living
History Interpreters will be dressed in 12th Armored Division WWII uniforms, and
talking about WWII weapons. Free small gifts to children inside the gift shop. NCCIL
(National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature), 102 Cedar St. Myth
& Magic: The Art of Gerald McDermott Dream weaver, tale spinner, portrayer
of visions and interpreter of the human spirit: Gerald McDermott is all of these
and more. Through his bold, graphic renderings of timeless tales from around the
world, McDermott communicates his deep understanding of the transformative power
of myth. His work is an evocation of the human quest for unity and completeness.

Pipers, who will be playing in various locations throughout the evening.
