New Photography Exhibit- Julie Ledet Fremin Title: Conspicuously Similar "I am particularly interested in dealing with those experiences that often fall outside the grasp of verbal communication, where only visual language will suffice. I examine the dialogue between viewer and image, and as a result I have come to consider photography as a language to be explored and mastered in such a way that it evokes a sense of direct communication among its viewers. My approach has been strongly influenced by the fact that, in the mind's earliest and most primitive stage, images precede words. Because of this, much of my work may appear enigmatic; it is intended to be understood intuitively, as if viewed without preconceived notions. Using my own iconography, I create work that incorporates narratives of claustrophobia, the animation of the inanimate, the peculiar character of light, and the disorientation that comes with the juxtaposition of the abnormal with the everyday, all from the vantage of the earlier, pre-verbal sensibilities. The images catalogue a wide array of inanimate objects, such as dolls, clay ornaments, and furniture placed in carefully fabricated landscapes. The iconography suggests normative social roles such as that of the child, parent, churchgoer, and citizen, roles which are often transformed and modified by life transitions." Julie

Anthony Brown: Breed Gallery (main gallery) Show Title: Out of the West Tony Brown was born the last of six kids. His two older sisters are professional artists: one an art teacher, the other a working artist in New York City. Tony says "For me, art is the only way I can express certain things. It's how I express my love of God, my love of landscape, my love of composition and my love of color. I love strong color, strong feelings, and dark darks next to bright lights. My work is not quiet or subtle for that is not what I want to express out of my heart".

Joe Barrington: Gallery 3 (3D gallery) Show Title: 27 years of "Just How Big Is It?" "My granddad brought the first arc welder to Throckmorton County in the late 1930's. My father started his welding business when he was only twenty years old. Dad gave me my first welding hood when I was two and one half years old, and naturally I grew up playing in his welding shop. Cutting, welding and bending steel is in my blood, and then I discovered art. My images are drawn from a lifetime of living in rural Texas. The people, animals and folklore are all an integral part of the stories I attempt to share with the viewer".

T.M.Gand: Gallery 4 Show Title: The Essence of Venice Italy, The Trip I Didn't Take
'I've always found that painting a subject is at times a way to live gloriously and vicariously through other people's experiences and/or hopes and dreams. It's a hands-on way to make the item, scene, or people feel more tangible and myself more connected to them. So, when my sister recently took a trip to Venice, Italy, it seemed only natural that I would paint from some of the images she took. It was my way of engaging myself more fully in the tale of her adventure. In the course of sharing images to pick from, she added details that I wouldn't have known otherwise like, a particular statue that is seen above many of the canal bridges or how churches had altars built into the side of them for canal users. And typical of the way I translate images, I thought it would be a fun experience to be able to take her already beautiful images and amp them up T.M.Gand style…with wild color and texture, or as my sister put it, capture the essence of Italy, a place full of life, energy and history".
