ArtWalk Thursday, February 14th from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. ArtWalk is sponsored this

Event Center/ The Warehouse Depot Company ACTIVITIES
AND ENTERTAINMENT Have
an "I Heart Art" photo taken at the Center's photobooth in Minter
Park! Photos are $1 or free in exchange for 2 non-perishable food items. At
the Grace Museum, create a Heart Cascade for "I Heart Art" in
Make It and Take It. Make It and Take It is a free, hands-on art activity for
kids of all ages, available from 5:30 to 8:00 PM. Feel
the love at the Center for Contemporary Arts! The Heart Gallery,
on display in the conference room, is a touching exhibit revealing the spirit
and life of children from Abilene and surrounding counties awaiting adoption.
Samples of Society by Hal Samples will be opening in Gallery 2.
In conjunction with this exhibit, the Center is hosting a one month food drive
to benefit the Food Bank of West Central Texas, which will run through
ArtWalk on March 13th. Supporters of HeARTS for the ARTS, a program that
raises money for local arts organizations, will be present to show you how you
can be involved with supporting the arts in our community. A live performance
by Chapman Stick player Brian Baggett will accompany the evening. The
Historic Paramount Theatre and A Silence Production present Homer Hiccolm
& the Rocketboys with special guest Doug Burr in concert at 7:00 PM. $10
general admission. This live concert event kicks off the Paramount's new ArtWalk
programming, the replacement of the previous Art Film series with live performance
events.

Abilene Public Library will have a display of pictures and Jazz & Blues
related memorabilia about Black artists, in honor of Black History Month. ACU*Cockerell
Art Gallery will host a public reception during ArtWalk to honor the show,
Palimpsest. Artists Robert Green, Kenny Jones, and Polly Jones will be exhibiting
their layered works in this show for the month of February. GALLERIES
AND MUSEUMS The
Center for Contemporary Arts, 220 Cypress St. Jane
Adams Breed Gallery: Close at Hand by Charlie Hukill, Mike Massey and
Tony Berry. This collection of work features a compelling style of portraiture,
on-site watercolor painting, and sensual, textured ceramics. This show offers
a glimpse into the personal and emotional experience of friendship and family.

2: Samples of Society by Hal Samples - Hal Samples is a photographer
out of Dallas, Texas whose mission is to help others find joy through the power
of serving others. His images reflect the life and beauty we all seek in each
other and in the world around us. Gallery
3: Murray and Clevenger, Together Again by Linda Murray and Sarabeth
Clevenger. This dynamic exhibit focuses on the environment and the self-conscious.
An energetic grace exhibited in each of the pieces prompts the viewer to receive
a poignant message. This show exhibits the contrast between control and release.

4: Sunburn by Chris McCaw. Chris McCaw's one-of-a-kind images are created
using an alternative process in which he uses long exposures to solarize the photo
paper in his handmade large format cameras. Most of the prints are literally "sunburned"
as the camera tracks the path of the sun during the exposure.
Conference
Room: Heart Gallery - The Heart Gallery exists to raise awareness
about children who are available for adoption. The Texas Department of Family
and Protective Services has joined hands with local photographers to give these
children hope for the future. Local photographers have donated their time and
talent to capture the spirit of these children from Abilene and 60 surrounding

by Robert Green, Kenny Jones and Polly Jones Cockerell
Galleries "upstairs" proudly presents photographer, Samantha Manski,
as the featured artist for February. Cockerell Galleries welcomes new artists,
Stacy Horton and Brittany Bennett! As all of these amazing artists are proudly
displaying their works of art- most of which are on sale to the public. You won't
want to miss the new photography by Nancy & Hannah Capra. The "art collective"
group FILOS will display their pottery, oil paintings, and photography. Artist
T.M. Gand will exhibit her bright oil and acrylic pieces, and photographer, Doug
Hodel, will exhibit his Alaskan Bear pieces. Artist Jessica Natalee Templeton
will be on hand to welcome guests to her colorful and cheerful studio, where she
displays her continually evolving style. Clinical Hynpotherapist, Christy Kahl
has the "solution to keeping your New Year's Resolution!" The
Grace Museum, 102 Cypress St. Main
Gallery: Picturing Eden: An International Exhibit Organized by the George
Eastman House. By looking at the concept of paradise and the garden through the
photographic lens, Picturing Eden highlights the ongoing significance of a humanistic,
culturally charged environment and its place in the history of art. This exhibit
of over 100 contemporary photographs features more than 35 artists. Second
Floor: Galleries A, B and C Alzheimer's: Forgetting Piece by Piece:
Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative. This exhibit contains 52 quilts each interpreting
Alzheimer's Disease in some way. The AAQI is a grassroots effort to raise awareness
and fund research to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease. Second
Floor: Children's Museum: Come Play and Learn in The Grace's Children's Museum,
featuring many new exhibits that are certain to educate and entertain! Third
Floor: History Museum: Mallouf Boot Shop and Historic Period Rooms 12th
Armored Division Memorial Museum, 1289 N. 2nd St. Living History Interpreters
will be dressed in 12th Armored Division WWII uniforms, and talking about WWII
weapons. Free small gifts to children inside the gift shop. NCCIL
(National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature), 102 Cedar St. Myth
& Magic: The Art of Gerald McDermott Dream weaver, tale spinner, portrayer
of visions and interpreter of the human spirit: Gerald McDermott is all of these
and more. Through his bold, graphic renderings of timeless tales from around the
world, McDermott communicates his deep understanding of the transformative power
of myth. His work is an evocation of the human quest for unity and completeness.
Exhibition is open through March 21st. Frontier
Texas!, 625 N. 1st St. See
the Toy Stories exhibit in the Frontier Gallery. Local collectors supplied more
than 80 toys, from the 1890s to the 1950s. Frontier Texas! will be open from 9:00
AM - 6:00 PM. SPECIALTY SHOPS Cassandra's
and Company, 173 Pine St. Open until 7:00 PM during ArtWalk. The Leaf, 202
Cypress St. The Leaf features an espresso bar with hot and iced espresso beverages,
including Italian sodas, iced tea, and sodas; tobacco, cigars, and pipes, teas
and gifts.
The Honeycomb
Tree, 1166 N. 2nd St. Shop until 8:00 PM. Browse the shop for antiques, furniture,
collectibles, western decor, paintings, vintage clothing, crosses, candles, soaps,
lotions and honey. You'll also find quality fashion jewelry at the best price!

174 Cypress St. will be open until 8:00 PM for shopping. Be sure to drop by! RESTAURANTS,

Street Station, 158 Cypress St. Art by Carolyn Hollingshead will be on display
this month.
Monks
Coffee Shop, 233 Cypress St. Stop in to enjoy a great cup of coffee and enjoy
photography by Saybra Giles. Open until Midnight, Thursday-Saturday.

Bakery, 226 Cypress St. Satisfy your sweet tooth with a tasty treat, or stop by
for a sandwich and soup.
The
Warehouse in the T&P, N. 1st & Pine St. Continue the fun into the night
with live music & drink specials. Open 5:00 - 7:00 PM for Happy Hour. Open
until midnight. 21 & up.
The
Civic Plaza Hotel, 505 Pine St. The lobby and restaurant will be open from 5:00
- 9:00 PM.
PARK AND
STREET VENDORS Dream
On! will offer free dream interpretations in front of Busch Jewelers. Joanne
Dilskie will be selling mosiac crafts in Minter Park and the Abilene High
Art Club will be selling lovely magnets and pins in front of the Center. Pinhole
Photographer Henry Morgan will be in front of the Cockerell Galleries displaying
his fascinating photography.
