Linda Murray grew up in Rotan, a small town in west Texas,
where she discovered the importance of trees, reading, and irony. She graduated
from the University of Texas at Austin. She now lives near Buffalo Gap, Texas,
where she has plenty of trees, almost enough books, and irony to spare.
"My interest lies in painting ideas, rather than things. But how does one
paint a concept? How to paint about the battle between nature and technology?
How to discuss the vague discomfort we experience when we are confronted by our
own mortality? How to develop a personal iconography that addresses both the humor
and pathos of the human experience? I dunno. You tell me. Artists only ask the
questions; we don't answer them"
