The Monday Night Drawing Group, a.k.a. the Dirty Drawers, began meeting about thirty years ago.

Dirty Draw-ers
This informal group meets every Monday Night from 7:00 - 9:00
Founding members were the late Mary Hogsett, Ruth Jackson, and Esmé Glenn. They met during the day and engaged housewives to pose for them. Later they moved to the Abilene Fine Arts Museum and began to meet at night.
For a short time they met at a south side recreation center before settling at the Center for Contemporary Arts in its first location above Roberts' photographic studio. Clint Hamilton and Jane Breed joined them there.
The group meets in Gallery 3 in the Center, on Monday nights from 7 until 9 p.m.
Since Esmé opens and closes the Center, members are asked to stay the entire three hours so that she does not interrupt her own drawing session with minding the door. Each person contributes $2 each night to pay the model who receives $15 or a bit more. |
